It was great to attend ARA #AUSrail last week in Brisbane, as well as get insight into new #rail#projects, #technology, and #innovation. With an impressive turnout with 2500-3000 delegates from across Australasia, there was many great networking opportunities as well.
Cities in Australia seem to get larger shares of funding for major rail projects in form of Metro, and light rail. Advancements for regional and intercity rail projects including Fastrail, and enhanced rail connections. There are also developments for new and improved freight hubs, with tie in with inland rail. Major projects: #InlandRail, #FASTRAIL (HSR?) Sydney-Newcastle, #LRT Gold Coast, Canberra and the expansion of the South East Queensland rail network after the Cross River Rail opening.
$12.9B rail civil construction and Maintenance per year over next 10 years.
$14.4B Rail project average next five years.
But the common challenge that both New Zealand and Australia face is finding qualified resources to deliver upcoming projects. #Skillshortage and rejuvenate the workforce are major challenges. Not only it is hard to find new people to the industry but many of the current experienced workforce will retire within next ten years.
